I just installed Gentoo on my computer, and the install went smoothly, but when I boot up I get an error:
VFS: Cannot open device "7203" or 72:03
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 72:03
I have a Promise RAID controller with two 80 gig harddrives, partitioned as:
/dev/ataraid/disc0/part1 NTFS (Windows XP OS)
/dev/ataraid/disc0/part2 NTFS (Windows XP Data)
/dev/ataraid/disc0/part3 EXT3 (Linux Boot)
/dev/ataraid/disc0/part6 SWAP (Linux Swap)
/dev/ataraid/disc0/part7 ReiserFS (Linux Root)
I have lilo configured with hde (my first harddrive) as the boot drive, and part7 as the root for Gentoo.
I have no idea where to set this root= option (I have it set in lilo.conf, but its set to /dev/ataraid/d0p7 not to 7203.
Could someone please help me?

In lilo.conf try setting append="root=0x7207"
then rerun /sbin/lilo |

Did you put the driver for the RAID card into the kernel (ie. not as a module) ? |
