You can use OpenOffice.org instead of MS Office. :P

I have certain problems with formulas scaling in OpenOffice.org (1.1.4). BTW OpenOffice.org is NOT FULLY compatible with micro soft one .

You should try OO.org 2.0, as it rocks. A lot. I've been using it at work (Win XP) for the past couple of weeks to collaborate with other employees via MS Word and Excel files, and it's all essentially transparent now. There are a few minor glitches (layout troubles with lots of tables, etc.) but it's vastly improved over the 1.1 release branch. (Plus, 2.0 actually follows your GTK+ or Qt widget theming, so it doesn't look butt-ugly :))

For your own safety, don't do it. You'll catch some very serious, unhealthy stuff 8)

i have gentoo as primary system, some other linux distros installed to keep eye on it, and windows xp, since i need some cad programs (autocad, solidworks) and my brother is a hardcore gamer(wine is NOT a choice :( ).

All i can say that linux is better and better with each year. i remember time when just webbrowser was a pain. now we have... mozilla, opera and even IE in wine.

Desktop= dual boot, Gentoo (primary), XP Pro (broken anyways)
"experimentation" server= Gentoo (primary), Netware 5 (didn't know I had it until I put a new purchased HD in ;) )
Laptop= Win 95b, will be Gentoo as soon as I get a new HD for it.

Started off with Red Hat, tried out a few other distros, but have been very satisfied with Gentoo since deciding on it ~6 months ago.

I have XP on another partition, but the only thing I use it for now is using DVD Santa to convert avi's. I've tried to do this on my gentoo box, but it's very confusing to me and I havn't yet been able to do it correctly. Gentoo ROCKS!

Fileserver:gentoo for about 2.5 years now (~TB of storage - accessed via cifs/nfs)
1stPC: WindowsXP right now (will be gentoo shortly for mythtv backend)
2ndPC: Gentoo 100% as of June
Company laptop: Gentoo as of two weeks ago. We moved to exchange 2003 from 5.5 - thus allowing me to use Evolutoin instead of CrossOver+Outlook2000. Using vpnc instead of Cisco's VPN client :)

i have some experiences (maybe too much) with all kind of windows, which was ever released offical. but since i know (and so use) gentoo, i hate all the windows flavors, especially service pack 2 cr**, every day a bit harder. really..

there is no alternative to linux, and nothing better than gentoo/portage.

Ive used every verison of Windows and nearly every distro (also including freebsd and netbsd) and I can honestly say gentoo rocks.

PC = Gentoo
Laptop = Gentoo
Web server = Gentoo

:D

Gentoo is my Baby

However i do have windows xp on here which has a 3GB partition and Gentoo on the rest of my 200GB HDD.

Windows is mostly used to set up my Westell Modem as it need to be first installed through cd before it can be configured over the internet.

WinXP on my laptop, game PC and video editing PC
Netware on 1 server
Win2K on 2 servers
Win2003 on 5 servers
Solaris on 4 servers
Gentoo on 3 servers
Office machines are a mix of Win98SE / Win2k / WinXP / Mac OS X.

Basically, our migration strategy is linux/solaris on the servers, and to not worry about the desktops for a few more years. Less things to go wrong on a server (no sound cards to fight with, or video card issues, or dealing with the vagaries of X).

My laptop is currently my only PC.
It's running Gentoo and I'm testing Arch Linux.
I have made a separate partition for Windows but never got to install it :D
And I'm very happy about it. Miss some games though...
My home server has Arch (PII@350MHz.350MB) which is the best distro for old computers in which you can't/don't want to use distcc for Gentooing.
It's very light and very easy to configure and maintain.
Anyway... Gentoo is THE distro.
My greatest dream about Gentoo is to see it in ALL available kernels out there...
All I have to say is:
There is no thing like Gentoo.

My current plan is to buy a mini Mac to Gentooify.
Distcc, backups, network server, file server...
Firewire 400Mbps cross-cable connection to my Laptop.
Nice plan, got to get it done...

mobile AMD Athlon(tm) XP-M 2500+
512M ram
ati radeon 9600 64M -> 60M of which are a swap (very fast) ;) (Using two separate runlevels for 3D accel and 2D regular use...)
Gentoo 2.6.14-ck5
~x86
gcc-4.0.2-r1
/ reiser3
/boot jfs
/var/tmp/portage xfs

Yes, all my systems (VDR, Laptop, Server) are running gentoo as the main and only System, and I don't plan to change that in the near future :D

I'm proud to report that none of my computers run Windows as a main OS any more. The only machine on my network that is running Windows is my parents box which I can't really touch. It's always full of spyware, and all the anti spyware apps do is keep trying to remove UltraVNC (which I use to RD into the machine to fix it). Nice!

I'm running Gentoo on my desktop and laptop (which I'll finish setting up once I've got a replacement keyboard... ironically the G key popped off while I was installing Gentoo!), and I'm running heavily customised Debian on all my servers. I am a happy penguin fan ;)

GNU/Linux has been my main OS since 1998. Gentoo has been my distro for about a year, although I have dabbled with it in the past. I have two Gentoo boxes, one "test" which I can break at will, and one "production" that can never break because I use it for everything. I have a laptop with XplodingPile "Pro" on it for those times I need winblows dev tools. I can't take OS products from M$ seriously, because they are so unstable, buggy, hard to use, and full of security holes. It's a wonder they are still in business....
