after booting the installation cd i can't mount it:
[img:cc1fd92409]http://www.cyberhost.ch/~swift/temp/mount.jpg[/img:cc1fd92409]
i tryed gentoo 1.2 and 1.4rc2, both don't work.
the cdrom works fine under windwows, also it worked under gentoo on my old computer. (new one is a p4 2.8 on an asus p4t533-c motherboard)
any idea what's wrong? |

Does it work if you do this :
Code: | mkdir /mnt/cdrom1
mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom1 |

What immediately grabs my intention is this: Code: | Warning: defective CD-ROM (volume sequence number 8224). Enabling "cruft" mount option. |
man mount has more information on what triggers the use of the cruft option. Apparently, the volume sequence number shouldn't be like that.
I also notice errors which suggest that the kernel, at least on this boot CD, doesn't like DMA with your motherboard very much.
I have several suggestions:- Try the new experimental boot CD. Can't remember where to get it though! You may need to ask a developer.
- Disable DMA in your BIOS
- Try a different CD-ROM drive, if possible.

i just tried to install slackware 8.1 and it worked, so it must be a problem with the gentoo install CD, anyone knows where to get this new experimental one? |

Also try these kernel params:
hdc=cdrom
hdc=noprobe
I have to use noprobe all the time since my DVD ROM gets confused, insert a CD and boot off it once and it's ok until a cold start, odd huh? |

Actually, looking at the error message again (and it's hard not to notice), it could be that the ISO was corrupt or it was written wrong?? |

Will a knoppix CD boot ok? I like to install gentoo using knoppix cd's because i can still use my computer for other stuff for the 3 days it takes to compile everything.
