I'm about to get ahold of an Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard and already have an AMD X2 4400+ processor. Before I actually get it, however, I'd like to avoid the problem I have with an MSI K8T Neo 2 : the second core isn't picked up by Gentoo (https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-367065.html) so I would like to get confirmation and details from people using the Asus+X2 combination that both cores are detected and used fine in Gentoo. Please reply with the bios you have and the kernel you used and anything else you feel may be relevant.

Thank you!

According to the AMD site the A8V should work if it is atleast revision 2.0. The MSI K8T Neo 2 is not listed as a recommended motherboard. Here is the link:

Thanks. That MSI board I had was really poor - it couldn't cope with 4GB of Corsair XMS 3200 low latency, and with 2GB it could only manage DDR333.
I can confirm now for anyone else interested that the Asus A8V Deluxe allows both cores to work fine (and also handles all 4GB of memory perfectly).
