Hi,

I want to build a gateway/firewall with a PowerMac G4 (400Mhz) and 2 NIC's; the build in and a AsanteFAST 10/100 PCI Card.
When booting with the Live CD, I get a error saying there's something wrong with the Tulip module.
Gento probes this module for the Asante NIC, because without the NIC it boots normally.

I've already read somewhere that this card doesn't work very well with Gentoo 2005.0 .

Should I just try and install Gentoo without this card, and hope I will find another module that does work?
Or are my chances slim and should I seek for a different sollution?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Mark,
The Netherlands

EDIT Problem solved with 2005.1

I'd try a NetGear FA311. Doesn't work in OS-X as far as I know but works fine in Linux with the natsemi module. And you can pick them up just about anywhere, I bought mine at stapes for $20. I use them in all my old world machines, so I'm assuming it will work in your G4

I'm having some strange problems with this setup!
I've had everything running, so it was time to install the second NIC (the asante).

The boot sequence stops after the graphical card is loaded
Code:
fb0: ATY Rage128 frame buffer device on Rage128 PF PRO AGP
_

After that: nothing..

First time I removed the NIC, the computer still wouldn't boot.
I had to recompile the kernel.
Now it doesn't boot with the NIC (except for one time; I booted with "Linux -video=ofonly", it only worked that time) but I don't need to recompile when I remove the NIC.
It doesn't even boot when I compile a kernel without the tulip module (with the NIC installed).

I'm going to bed now, I'll struggle further with it in the morning...
But does anyone have a suggestion??
Someone who has experience with a PowerMac G4 AGP (sawtooth)??
Would you please post your .config?

Thanks!
