Hi, I'm running the beta on a amd64 system. The installation was no problem, but I have some problems with the clock_applet. When I want to add it on a panel I get this error message
Code: | The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_ClockApplet". |
It seems that gnome-applets depends on evolution-data-server, maybe the error comes from there.. When I do a "revdep-rebuild" it always wants to downgrade to gnome2.10. But i don't know why.
I have also a question about the cairo-clearlooks theme, where can I get this and how can I install this? I know there is a cvs repository for this on http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/clearlooks/clearlooks-cairo/, but I don't know how to install this. thx for help! |

I was wondering what that bmg use flag did. And to think that I disabled composite in xorg.conf... |

Nope, not in xorg.conf, but it disables the management of composite.
You can have composite enabled in xorg.conf and still not use it by not running a manager.... |

Hmm for some reason starting today gnome-panel is dumping with this:
(after flashing a bit)
Code: | $ gnome-panel
gnome-panel: symbol lookup error: gnome-panel: undefined symbol: menu_tree_lookup
|
Anyone have any thoughts?

i am using the latest from gentopia and portage, and my panel isn't starting, complaing:
Code: | gnome-panel: error while loading shared libraries: libgnome-menu.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory |
is there an ebuild for gnome-panel out yet?

1. revdep-rebuild -vp
2. happens when you upgrade to gnome-base/gnome-menus-2.11.91 and don't rebuild gnome-panel _before_ restarting the desktop (yes, I also do like doing small upgrades then restart to catch things early but more than often I'm too lazy to revdep-rebuild each time)
3. just a symlink to whatever libgnome-menu.so you have is a quick fix if you don't want to rebuild the panel now |

I filed a bug about this, but even after symlinking the library it didn't seem to work...

current version of gnome-panel 2.10.2 doesn't work as reported above (flashes and dies shortly thereafter with "gnome-panel: symbol lookup error: gnome-panel: undefined symbol: menu_tree_lookup" error))
Filing bug for this (https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=103033), but here's my error trying to re-emerge it:

Why gnome-panel 2.10.2 ? upgrade to 2.11.91 (may be you have to update /etc/portage/package.unmask with lines masked in /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask)
Code: |
root@panther /tmp # emerge gnome-panel -s

Seriously...there is no reason to use any of the masked 2.11/2.12 ebuilds in portage now. Only half of the packages have been updated and it will cause problems if you are running split 2.12/2.10 packages as you can see. Either find an overlay or wait until everthing is in the portage tree. Thanks |

That's what I mean: gnome-panel-2.11.91 is from either steev (this thread whole purpose ) or gentopia (cardoe, not the same but quite)
Works perfectly good:
- Only some random Firefox/Thunderbird crashes, but I get these with any gtk+ that has cairo backend.
- Window client area is shortly painted in black before the expose event is handled => slight flicker white/black/white, but it seems I'm the only one since nobody replied to notify same behavior on his box. |

Now i understand why beta-apps are not immediatly added to portage. And they are right.
Filling bugs for misconfigured system makes bugs-tracking useless. _________________ Ma che c'hai là? Sulla spalla!!!! http://lascimmia.it/ |

http://www.steev.net/files/gnome-2.11/ is where the whole overlay is. I don't think anything is in portage at this point so you should get the tarball of beta ebuilds. _________________ Ubuntu Linux Dapper Drake running Gnome-2.14.1

My overlay hasn't been updated/synced in a while - I will do that later today when I am on high speed internet - I have been helping a friend move for the past 2 days, so I haven't been as active as I would like, not to mention the wifi at his new place has been extremely flakey. Basically, my gnome overlay will have packages in it that are not currently in portage ONLY (I hope) that way no one has to deal with packages not being in portage. I remove packages from my overlay as they are added to portage, and only add them back if I find a patch that is needed (gnome-applets doesn't currently work with the new gtk+/pango stuff - i created a patch from gnome-applets CVS but it isn't working properly yet, which is another reason I haven't synced.) |

Well, stuff is half in portage right now. The problem was mixing 2.10 and 2.11... the reason I'm half-emerging stuff is cuz once-upon a time I updated to 2.10 (when everyone was saying it was ready) by updating in .umask and .keywords and so as new stuff is added to portage, bit-by-bit, emerge is asking me to unmask the new ones because of dependencies and soforth, which I stupidly I guess have been doing..
W
anyway, gedit's still not building, but that's a whole 'nother story. |

I know out the problem.. the package gnome-base/eel for gnome 2.11 is only available for x86. I guess I gotta wait till someone makes it available for amd64.
That'll fix the gedit problem.
If someone wants to add gnome-panel as well.. gosh, that would be great.

It looks like portage includes a lot more of the gnome-2.12 beta files. Am I the only one without the new gedit sidebar search or the epiphany in browser errors? _________________ Ubuntu Linux Dapper Drake running Gnome-2.14.1

Is there a complete "package.mask" and "package.keywords" for gnome 2.12, hand typing is so boring...
I thought, Gnome 2.12 should include the new Totem with a Playlist a the right side?! _________________ Just you and me strogg! |
