|
Hello,
I just bought a creative webcam NX pro for videoconferencing with gnomemeeting. Following some posts in this forum, I recompiled my kernel (2.4.20-gentoo-r4) with V4L support and the OV511 USB webcam driver.
I rebooted, and then did "modprobe ov511". This resulted in the log messages:
Code: |
Linux video capture interface: v1.00
usb.c: registered new driver ov511
ov511.c: v1.61 for Linux 2.4 : ov511 USB Camera Driver
|
However, I do not have any /dev/video* files. I searched the forum, but didn't find any posts with this specific problem, where the module loads with no errors, but there is no /dev/video0 file.
Any ideas?
thanks in advance,

Well, an update, but no success yet.
I went to http://alpha.dyndns.org/ov511/ to get the latest ov511 driver. I tried both the latest stable (1.65) and development (2.27) versions. Both returned dozens of "unresolved symbol" messages when running "make install". Also, if I tried to modprobe either version, it failed with "unresolved symbol" errors. Following the FAQ on the ov511 site, I recompiled my kernel to ignore module version numbers. After that, I can modprobe the 1.65 version, but the 2.27 version still fails with unresolved symbols.
In any case, the result after modprobing the 1.65 version is the same as it was with the version that is included in the kernel (1.61): it modprobes without error, but there's no /dev/video*, and if I try to run xawtv or v4l-conf, I get "can't open /dev/video0: No such device".
I'd appreciate any hints or ideas. _________________ LMCBoy |

I did the same thing as you but when I try to install OV511\OV518 I get...
ov511_core.c:1677: error: unknown field `inc_use' specified in initializer
ov511_core.c:1677: warning: initialization from incompatible pointer type
ov511_core.c:1678: error: unknown field `dec_use' specified in initializer
make: *** [ov511_core.o] Error 1

I have this webcam too; can't get it to work neither, but there seems to be a project going on to support this webcam (and some more webcams that use the same chip)
http://zc0302.sourceforge.net/zc0302.php
Just to let you guys know |

Hi
I've already added this project at http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/ where you can find a good overview of linux usb-devs.
I gave back my cam and bought a Philips ToUCam Fun II - works perfect with camstream ...
Ciao, Jux |

the new zc030z driver (0.01, stable cvs version), http://zc0302.sourceforge.net/zc0302.php, works very well with mine nx pro: make sure your user is in "video" group before start using webcam _________________ dune |
