Hi out there...
I've got a Intel-Server-Board (2xXeon) with a Promise Fasttrack IDE-RAID controller onBoard. I tried to install rc_2 on it, after setting up a mirror-RAID, and after booting I tryed modprobe ataraid, that was ok, and after that I tyed modprobe pdcraid, and dmesg sayes Promise Fasttrack Softwareraid driver 0.0beta: No raid Array found... any Ideas?
Greetings,

I had the same problem with my ABIT IT7 MAX2 v.2 (i845PE chipset) board.
It has a Highpoint 374 raid controler and my HD's are in raid0
It seems like (from what I've gathered by pearching here) that there is an issue with any of the 1.4 live CD's and raid.
I was able to boot off a 1.2 CD and you then can get all 1.4 tbz
I've not gotten the kernel to boot off my hard disks, but I am just minutes from posting about that issue of mine.
with the 1.2 CD modprobe ataraid and modprobe hptraid worked for me, where as the 1.4 rc2 and rc1 would not see any drives. I'd immagine that the modprope pdcraid would work off the 1.2 as well.
I hope this helps some and good luck getting raid setup! |

I now have my PC now booting off the HD (thank god!)
I seem to be stuck using gentoo-2.4.19-r7 ATM tho.
Also, have you initialised the raid array with the promise card? (I don't know that you have to, but I did with my Highpoint..)
If not that could be it.
I've also heard that linux software raid beats psudo-hardware raid (like our controlers are)in performance (not seen the #'s myself tho) but if you use any other OS (like I am) you can't get raid on that OS.
just some ideas..
again, good luck! |
