So everytime I reboot my computer, Amarok gives me the message, "xine was unable to initialize any audio-drivers". But then, once I go into the options change the sound engine from nothing to the 'xine Engine', all works. This isn't a big issue, but it's starting to get annoying. Re-emerging Amarok with GCC 4.1.1, and the problem still stands. I've search the forums, but no one seems to have the same situation as me.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

remove or edit "~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc"
amarok doesn't work too well with configuration options from older versions.

i've got the same error when starting amarok, but i get no sound after that.
in the options, the xine engine is already active, but there is no alsa option in the output session.

i've experiencing this problem for a while, but since my sound is working again in kde, i've guess it's now a amarok/kaffeine problem. maybe i need to re-emerge xine?

Actually, I take that back. The problem has managed to come back!

The sound works, it's just everytime I open up Amarok, it keeps telling me "xine was unable to initialize any audio-drivers", then I pick xine as the engine, and all works. :\

Any ideas?

Edit: I just noticed that after everytime I reboot and load up Amarok, it tells me that no engines have been loaded.
Edit 2: Running Amarok as root works perfectly with surround sound, but regular user does not.

I've been able to pinpoint what messes up my amarok!

Thing that causes the problem:
1)Changing Settings-->Configure Amarok...-->OSD
and change the display to "%artist - %title"

Things that occur:
1)If I Quit and Open the application it works fine
2)If I restart the machine and open amarok i get the xine error of no audio.

What should I do? (Or is this a problem of amarok?!)

Please!! I still need help here.

I keep getting this "xine was unable to initialize any audio-drivers" after each reboot. It's very annoying to have to close and re-open amarok.

I would switch to banshee or some other thing, but I like Amarok's design and feel.

Help!!!

If it's a bug it's something related to configuration somewhere on your end, because it doesn't happen to everyone (like me).

Have you tried running amarok as another user (root is easy if you don't have any others setup)? Does this occur when amarok is run as root?

If it does run OK as root then I'd dump all of your amarok configuration except your library files. If that doesn't work, I suppose it could be some bug with other kde related configuration. In that case I'd try backing up .kde3.5 and moving it to .kde3.5bak, then logout, log back in and let it restore all defaults. Copy in your amarok library (don't want to lose that bit) and see how it works then.

It was also a problem with root. I dont have a file called .kde.3.5 I have a whole folder called .kde, so I should just

Code:
mv -f .kde .kde.backup

I don't mind losing my amarok library, I could easily import that again. By the way my root user didn't have any files on the library and the same happened. Should I be playing around with my normal user (backing up the kde configs) or with the root? or both?

Thanks!

I had time in my hands to be able to play around.
This post will be a bit long, but I am just trying to inform anyone else with a problem what did I do (and I am not sure if my problem is completely resovled, but getting there)

First I played with root.

Code:
mv .kde .kdebackup

Then I started amarok, and set it up nicely. I inserted a file in my library, then logged out. Then came back in. It worked perfectly

Did the same steps in "user". However, in user i also found ".kderc" which i also renamed ".kdebackup". I setted up amarok, logged out, logged in and got the problem of audio!!

So I opened Midnight commander (It's fabulous to compare two folders) and I saw some differences.

I had ".kde" of root and of the user opened, one of the main differences was in .kde/socket so I have just copied all of the files from root to the user. I will let you know if this works. I think it should because it had several important things about artsd, or so it seemed. Well I am off to lunch. I'll post once I see things. Later today. Thanks

The problem persists....not sure what to do now. Any more hints? Is there a configuration for aRts perhaps?
By the way, I do not use KDE as my desktop. I use Xfce.
