Hi!

I've got a problem with getting acpi to work on my gentoo, i have installed the acpi-kernel, the kernel boots and seems fine to me.

i got a asus a7v kt133 motherboard, and i have updated the bios to 1011. (newest)

i also did a search on our good friend google and found http://cip.uni-trier.de/nofftz/linux/Athlon-Powersaving-HOWTO.html

do you guys have any suggestions, or have "hand on experience" with this motherboard.

it would be nice to have suspend mode, my fan does noice. =P

I tried ACPI on this board and it does load here, i.e. my computer boots with it and I see ACPI messages in dmesg. I wanted to get my power button working but catting the entry in /proc simply locks up the system.
Once I got acpi button somewhat working with the latest realeases, but it would not specifically do anything on the powerbutton event. I could only have it powerdown if I let it respond to any api event.
If your problems are similar, I think the board just has some design incompatibilities that only arise in linux (windows does fine) They should be fixabel, but I haven't done so yet!

I use apm to set my A7V into suspend mode with:
Code:
apm -s

btw, is there any reason to use Bios 1011? I use 1004D and I have found it to be the fasted to detect the drives attached to the Promise controller. Does it provide any speed ups under Linux?

I myself started with 1007 when I got the board, and as soon as 1008 was released I found that it was a very fast bios with fast detection. recently I upgraed to 1011 and found it to offer no advantages over 1008 thay I am able to notice.

hm, maybe i should use apm instead of acpi.
does apm generally works better than acpi?

regarding my bios version, ive took the last one, beacuse i had an old one installed and maybe it should "solv" my suspend issue.
i have noticed that it takes a few seconds before it find the promise controller.

do ya think i should use apm instead?
im open for suggestion. :)

did any got poweroff when shut down computer work with acpi and a7v ?
I have same board and with gentoo1.2 automatic poweroff did work by ACPI, but now it won't work. Now I user gentoo 1.4rc2 and vanilla 2.4.20 kernel and ACPI as module.
I have tried gentoo kernel and bothe kernels with APM and ACPI nothing works.
I even tried by switching both APM and APCI on in kernel and also modules.
