@bonecrime
Now yor sound problem solves by reading the wiki howto. You need to SET Buffersize to a reasonabel number (in ms)

@psyfer
^^
What does "opengl-update --get-implementation" say?
You need to be root to get something out of it.
It should say something like ATI
if not, type opengl-update ati and try glxgears again.
Post the unexpected. :D

Yup it comes back with ati...
but this time when i opened it nothing happened except the window opened then froze before displaying anything and when I try to run it as root It freezes and I have to restart my computer by pressing the reset button.

The modules i am using are agpgart, intel_agp, and fglrx.

Edit:It now freezes my computer whenever I use wine 8O

First of all i guess not your box freezes just X. With ctrl + alt + backspace you should be abel to avoid restart. :( (kills X)

thats quite odd anyways. Can you look at the errormessages in /usr/log/messages and /usr/log/xorg.log?
Maybe it complains on the mot sufficent rights. My favourite problem ^^.
Can you look if you have some similar device to /dev/nvidia0?
I am totally sorry I have no ati, so you have to do a bit thinking on your own :/

I am sure you'll manage :)

Cheer

w00t. I duno really what I did. I tried a billion things and was fooling around with my wine config file and I got it running smoothly! No more restarts and my fps is all good too! :D but now i still have that validating game problem to figure out :? anyone know how to get rid of that? Before this error had not come up when I was logged in as root but I cant run wine from root without restarting. And I am pretty sure it is my box because I cannot get out of it by using Ctrl-Alt-Delete.

Edit: Maybe its a permission problem?

Thanks, had to go up to something like 130 on the soundbuffer, but it seems to be ok now. Still need to test it in game, as I don't have any account yet. And my bro won't let me borrow his, 'cos he's playing. Bad excuse!

Your brother is not playing 24/7. And when he not plays he surely let you try a bit. In meanwhile you can check where to get the game ^^.
Good luck!

Eh well I didn't find a real solution to the problem but instead I copied over my config file from my user config to the root one so now it wont blow up but I have to run it in root for it to work. But now I have yet another problem. When I am in game I am not able to click any of my macros. Well actually anything in that bottom toolbar and many things wont respond to my clicking including the mini-map, and friends list...basically eveything except things i can target like monsters.....looting......npcs. (even though i can't accept quest or buy or sell items because my backpack is also unresponsive) :(

Tried it now, and it works! :D

But how can I change the resolution? I can't change it from 1024x768, and setting it to windowed mode don't help. And what can I say, this res is a bit too high for my Gf4MX. :( It's not smooth even with everything set to lowest.

I installed WoW and it runs fine, nice smooth, but just the graphics really aren't nice, any way to fix this? I can't read the text that's displayed :(
http://exlexis.be/linux/wow.png :\
(Cedega-4.3.2 / ati-drivers-8.10.19)

Second problem, WoW needs activeX from mozilla.. CS crashes when this is installed .. :\

Change your resolution... anything will look like crap at 640x480 (especially if you are on an LCD screen). Try at least 1024x768. You can change it via the in-game video options.

Silly me the problem was that my wine config's resolution was on 640x480 while WoW's was 1024x768 so i couldnt use anything not in the 640X480 size.

My conf was working great until i upgrade the ATI driver from the previous ~x86 to the actual ~x86(the x86 are not working at all). For some odd reason i had to re-run 'fglrxconfig'.My xorg config file was working great until then.
Now the game is showing up as expected but when i play it freeze 1 second every 5 to 6 seconds ,sort of lag .
If i run 'glxgears' then it follows the exact same patterns when i play(if i don't play it's running normally).
Quote:

with the game on
Code:
glxgears
9879 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1975.800 FPS
8664 frames in 6.0 seconds = 1444.000 FPS
7419 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1483.800 FPS
6291 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1258.200 FPS
6501 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1300.200 FPS
9914 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1982.800 FPS
7879 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1575.800 FPS
7540 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1508.000 FPS

without the game ON
Code:
glxgears
19745 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3949.000 FPS
22125 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4425.000 FPS
18539 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3707.800 FPS
22090 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4418.000 FPS
19176 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3835.200 FPS
18512 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3702.400 FPS
22539 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4507.800 FPS

PostPosted: Mon Jun 13, 2005 10:10 am    Post subject: WoW Won't Run My Characters Reply with quote

I'm new to linux, but I with the help of your faq I managed to get WoW working fine. I installed by copying it over from a friend's computer and it worked great for weeks. A day or two before the newest WoW patch came out, the game started to crash when it finishes loading up the game. I can log-in and select my character okay, but when it loads into the game it crashes. Strangly I've noticed that it only crashes when I use my two highest characters. I can log-in with someone else's account and play fine, or even make a new character on my own account, but the characters I've been putting time into won't run for some reason. I keep getting this error message.

X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 144 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent)
Serial number of failed request: 4775
Current serial number in output stream: 4775

If anyone could help me out it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I seem to be the only one whos game is not Crashing on exit. If your game crashes on exit your game exit with the crash.
My first guess was it was caused by the missing Keytabels in the Registry but since some people installed the game under Linux and still have these Crashes I have no Idea.
As long as we do not know what these Crashes are caused by we recomment not useing the setup in WoW at all. Even if the Configuration gets saved in most cases. There is a chance that your Config gets messed up.
You can manipulate the setup by hand while editing the wtf/config.wtf file.

If you exit the game we recomment that you logout before exiting. With that methode we make shure your Charakter Configuration is saved.

RLM:
You could try to deactivate or delete any Addon you have.
If that does not help you can try:
Hmm if that is true try to move the folders of your to highest chars elsewere. The folders I want you you to move are in:
Code:
path/to/wow/wtf/Account/Accountname/Charname

The folders contain your character specific Configurations.

Do not Remove it, since you might want them back if this does not work.

@ RLM
Try to move WDB directory away from WoW's directory (you could also just remove it, but I prefer to first move away, test and then remove it if it's useless). WDB contains some caches that are created during game play, and they sometimes break/grow too big/whatever and start to cause some problems. If that doesn't fix it, then also move away WTF directory. WTF contains Config.wtf, which is the config file of WoW and WTF/Account/YourAccount/bindings-cache.wtf contains your key bindings, so don't delete them. WTF also contains some caches of your characters and account, and those might have broken for some reason (it's safe to remove those files as all your characters and account related things are stored in Blizzard's servers). If the problem is still there, move away Interface directory too. It contains custom UI/addon/similar things, and they might cause trouble sometimes. If moving away those files didn't fix the problem, then return the directories to their places and keep asking for help. :)

(legine beat me to it... partially)

[edit] Oh, almost forgot... The latest wine (20050524) is working fine for me. No patching or anything needed.

[edit2] WTF/Account/YourAccount/ has some other files too which you probably don't want to remove, so just move the directories away (instead of deleting) and try if it works and if it does, then move the files which contains important things back to their places.

WoW doesn't need Mozilla ActiveX, only the updater needs. You can prove that by doing "mv .wine wineold && wine" and then run WoW (this changes the name of ".wine" (where wine's config files and maybe also fake_c is), and creates a new, clean ".wine" directory, which doesn't have any extra dlls, softwares, etc. Just default configs and clean fake_c). Do "rm -r .wine && mv wineold .wine" if you want your old .wine directory back.

First of all, thanks for the prompt replies. Secondly, I tried the things you suggested and the game still wouldn't work. I could run the game okay after removing the WDB Folder, but I still got the problem when trying to log into my characters. When I tried removing the WTF and Interface folders WoW would try to suggest a server to connect to and immediately crash. I tried only removing the folder for my account name in WTF but it still crashed after suggesting the server. And I tried removing the addons folder in interface, but I still crashed when logging onto my characters. Anyone have any other ideas? Thanks again for the replies. I never expected to be replied to so promptly.

Try to move away WDB, Interface and WTF directories, execpt leave WTF/config.wtf (move away "Account" directory - Config.wtf has default realm name, maybe it will go past the realm selection by having Config.wtf). And try to run WoW with clean .wine directory ("mv .wine wineold && wine").

I tried running WoW with the WDB, Interface, and Accounts folder moved. With a clean .wine directory. It still did'nt help at all. I also tried moving all of the files from one of the account folders of a character that worked into my character's folder. It did'nt help either. Could it possibly be some sort of setting on the server that's not compatible with wine?
