Sometimes you have a computer without internet connection, or with a very slow (think dial-up) one. In such a case it would be nice to have a tool that can tell you which files you exactly need for a certain emerge. While emerge -pf gives a list of URLs, it doesn't check if these are already in distfiles.
As an experiment into writing a ruby script, I combined the necessary with the pleasant (as we say in Dutch) and produced f2f, or files2fetch, a ruby script that does exactly what I need. As I am a beginner in ruby, there will probably be obvious points of improval. But I thought to share it anyway. Maybe someone else has been looking for this, but hasn't found it so far -- as I did.
The ebuild and tarball are available for download from http://dev.d10e.net/files/f2f/ _________________ "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln
