Hello, is it possible to install Gentoo using only BootX and some tarballs? I would like to install on a Powerbook which has no CD-ROM drive, only a network connection. Thanks! |

I'm trying to do it right now. If I get it to work I will tell you how. |

I did not get my install to work yet. I have a small suspicion that I'm running out of disk space. At any rate you need to get Boot X on your computer. Once you have BootX installed and running you need to follow the PPC install guide until step 7. In step 7 it states that:
Code: | Note: If you are unable to mount your cdrom, it is still possible to retrieve the stage1/2/3 from the ibiblio site using wget http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo/releases/build/1.2/stage1-ppc-1.2.tbz |
This means since you do not have a cd you must download the tarball from a mirror site then you can unpack the tarball. I just used the cd to get BootX and I have been downloading the 1.4 tarball since the cd only is 1.2.
Not that I have had any success yet but I will try for a little while long before I give up and go back to debian. |
