Hi there. I just installed gentoo on my server. Since this server is in my closet behind my bed i never go on it and i dont want to build Xorg. But almost everything i try to emerge have Xorg in dependencies. I put A USE="-X" in my mak.conf but that dont seems to work. Is there a way to tell portage i dont want Xorg??

You could additionaly mask it or add it to package.provided. This stops emerging Xorg, however it does not help for packages / ebuilds that really depend on X11/Xorg... they just won't compile without it.

What are your other USE flags? There are some that will turn on X deps anyway, like gtk, qt, etc. Post the output of `emerge info` here.

"equery d xorg-x11" to see what is requiring X. make sure gnome,gtk,gtk1,gtk2,kde,qt flags are all off, as those will pull in X as 2nd order dependencies.

Try emerging the package using the "-vpt" flags first. This shows you all the dependencies in a tree like view. There you can see what package needs "xorg-x11".
Post the result here and we'll tell you what USE-Flag you've to remove.

OTTOMH, try adding "-X -kde -gnome -gtk -qt -motif" to your USE flags. That should kill a lot of optional features pulling in X.
