I assume the problem with the DRM ATi driver could have something to do with the problem that has also been reported about the old nVidia driver (some PCI addressing error, apparently). But the deffinitive proof is when you would actually load the module. I have a system with an ATi 9500 card, and the mdoule does build, problem is that there are some unresolved symbols when I try to load the module. I will have to test again and check which symbols are them exactly (some VM and PCI something or other, but I will have to test).

Okay guys, I will post some information later (in~8h).
I noticed also that ALSA is unable to find my soundcard but as I posted it might be only a config error.

How do I select ipw2200 as my network card driver?
I don't see it anywhere in the network driver section or the wireless card section...

mope:
It depends on
Code:

Device Drivers  --->
...Networking support  --->
......<*> Generic IEEE 802.11 Networking Stack

Select the above, then IPW2200 is under
Code:

Device Drivers  --->
...Networking support  --->
.........Wireless LAN (non-hamradio)  --->
............< > Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG and 2915ABG Network Connection (NEW)

cheers

devfs was dropped in git4 right?

anyways this is tight! with the devfs deps patch everything runs like a champ. and as for using the external alsa- I know how to make all my stuff work with /etc/modules.d/alsa and experiences from installing the alsa in kernel have compromised my ability to use some of my stuff. But hey everyone's different.

You have to enable CRYPTO_DEFLATE first before you can select Reiser4.

Works great here!

The only thing that didn't work out right was nvidia. I used to have latest stable drivers (1.0.6629) but xorg was complaining, so I switched to latest ~x86 (1.0.7664) and it worked!

Nice work Tiger683 (and all kernel developers)! :D

I got some uncute alsa-problems too... lots of unresolved symbols - but at least the sources are compileable...
Chipset is Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 03)

Okay guys, lets get it on...
The ALSA problem I had is fixed. A config error as I said.

That's the important output I think. It's the same output it get since the first *.12 RC. :-/ I have a ATi Radeon M 9700.

2. Console things...
I have two console problems. The first is that some lines of dmesg are displayed on tty1 after booting. It looks like this:
Code:
This is fishbox.homelan (Linux i686 2.6.12-nitro1) 19:45:23
fishbox login: Oops: 0002 [#1]
PREEMPT SMP
Modules linked in: i2c_i801 ehci_hcd uhci_hcd intel_agp
CPU:    0
EIP:    0060:[<b01aa4f8>]    Not tainted VLI
EFLAGS: 00010246   (2.6.12-nitro1)
EIP is at sysfs_release+0x48/0xa0
eax: 31303030   ebx: ceb8a000   ecx: cee7ac00   edx: 00000000
esi: 31303030   edi: ce925b00   ebp: cfed0d80   esp: ceb8bf4c
ds: 007b   es: 007b   ss: 0068

...and some more lines.

And the second prob is that on the TTYs i have a absolute shitty ANSI/ASCII display. I simply can't discribe it. It looks like specific characters cannot be displayed and I don't know why. With the terminal in Gnome I doesn'nt have this problem and the consolefont settings weren't changed.

Are you trying to use the portage version of alsa, or the alsa provided with the kernel? If you are using the one provided with the kernel, you might want to try reversing the git-alsa patch, it makes some changes to hd_intel.c
