Hi, guys.
I have a question about hard drives.
When you add a new hard drive, does the drive get assigned to the next avilable letter (Eg. hdd)?
Also, do CD devices count as hard drives in the respect of the device lettering, like is it something like /dev/cdrom/cdrom0 or /dev/hdc, etc.? |

The letter will usually depend on where the disk is connected. The master drive on the primary controller is /dev/hda, the slave is hdb, then hdc and hdd are master and slave on the secondary controller, and so on--regardless of whether the devices are hard disks or cdroms. The cdroms can also be refered to through the /dev/cdrom or /dev/cdroms/cdrom* aliases as well though. |

Drive Setup:
hda1: NTFS
hdb1: NTFS
hdb5: Swap Linux
hdb6: Linux Main (/)
hdb7: Boot Linux
hdc: CD-RW
hdd: DVD-ROM
So if I add another HD in (I have RAID on mobo, so I can put in 4 more devices) it will go to hde?

If you connect it to the raid controller, then probably yes. |
