It would appear that I have laid my hot little hands on a cobalt qube, however, its the clone/re-badge that gateway made for a while, if you remember them.
Basically, trying to work out if anyone has gentoo running on these, sadly, the support on the native software is gone now, and id really like something thats kinda useful rather that a foot rest...
Ive been looking around, and basically, at this point, there is NetBSD or Gentoo as an option, is Gentoo dev still happening on thse, or has it fallen by the wayside?
any feedback would be great.

The Gateway Microserver is, as far as I know, just a repainted Qube 2--in other words, it's exactly the same on the inside.

There are still threads in this forum about work on Qube and Raq systems. Gentoo runs well (though slow, because they are not powerful) on Qube 2s.
Prior to using Gentoo, I used NetBSD 1.6 on my Qube. Although in many ways I prefer BSD over Linux, NetBSD on the Qube was very much broken--the thing would hang regularly, particuarly on heavy network usage. I don't know if NetBSD 2.0 is particularly better, but I'd go Gentoo if I were you. |

You mean these little puppies?
If you open them up, you'll indeed notice that it has "Qube 2" clearly written on the mainboard.

And as you can see above... that's the machine in question running Gentoo.
The Gateway Microserver (as Sanguinary has rightly pointed out) is simply an OEM-branded version of the Qube 2. The Seagate NasRaQ is another example.
They run Gentoo just fine. Just make sure you put plenty of RAM (at least 64MB, preferrably 128MB) and a decent hard drive in the machines, and they go far. _________________ Stuart Longland (a.k.a Redhatter, VK4MSL)
