I have a win2k box containing some mp3s. I have a Gentoo Box connected to the network. Samba is installed, server not started, just using smbclient. I can browse the win2k box using konqueror, typing smb://pcname/mp3s . I can copy files from the win2k box to my gentoo. But a lot files can't be copied over, konqueror just gives me a "can't read" error, with option to skip or autoskip. And i don't know why those files can't be copied over, it's not a permissions problem, since they're on fat32. Those files are readable on the win2k box. And it only affects some files in some directories, not entire directories.
Does anyone else have this kind of problem? How do you fix this? |

Perhaps it is a random network error. See whether it keeps on happening consistently. |

it does happen consistently, on the same files. although the files it chooses seem sort of random, in that i don't see any thing in those files which may be different from the others. all of them are mp3s, freshly ripped. |

Perhaps it is filesystem or implementation error on either side. |

still doesn't work.
finally gave in and started up the smb server, then, using the w2k box, browsed to my home directory and copied.... and it works |
