|
|
I just emerged amaroK 1.2.3. THe sound works great and I am able to listen to files from my mp3 server shares. However, the analyzer is always blank except when no song is playing and it goes through the idle cycle. I ran 'alsamixer' and turned all of my levels up but nothing changed.
Has anyone ran into this before? |

Have you compiled amaroK with the visualization USE flag? That would be my first guess (actually, my only one) _________________ Magyarok jelentkezzetek!

Which output plugin are you using? If you use gstreamer or the xine-engine, the vizualisation should work. With akode, you won't get any visualization!

I recompiled with the "visualizations" flag and now I have a list of visualizaions to choose from. But all of them (including the analyzer that runs in the main window) would just display flat lines. I switched the engine from "aKode" to "aRts" and now it works. However, the "aRts" engine does not seem to be as stable as the "aKode" engine.
Are there other engines out there that I can run? |

xine ? gstreamer ?
I prefer the xine engine but thats just taste, no real reason _________________ "I would say we have a 50% chance of survival, but I consider myself an optimist so I'll give us 50,5% ..."

Those aren't listed as an option to use. Do I need certain flags while compiling to have these options show up? |

Yes, amarok has useflags for xine & gstreamer (they use those names). So enable one or more of those I usually enable them both ... _________________ "I would say we have a 50% chance of survival, but I consider myself an optimist so I'll give us 50,5% ..."

I enabled them all too. I had bad experiences with gstreamer, it started every song with a 1-2 seconds long pause, which kind of irritated me, especially with live albums
Xine on the other hand works stable and fast here. _________________ Magyarok jelentkezzetek!

I emerged amarok w/o any use flags and it only emerged 1 program (amaroK). Then I unmerged amaroK and remerged it with the visualization use flag. That emerged 3 instead of 1 and the analyzer now works. Now I unmerge again, add xine and gstreamer, and now it emerges 12 instead of 3.
I am wondering how many of the programs I have emerged are missing functionality simply because I haven't added certain use flags. Where do you go to find out all the different use flags that can be used for different programs and what they do? |

Their descriptions are in these files
Code: | /usr/portage/profiles/use.desc
/usr/portage/profiles/use.local.desc |
or you could install gentoolkit package (in app-portage) and it comes with command line application "euse":
Code: | Syntax: euse <option> [suboptions] [useflaglist]
Options: -h, --help - show this message
-v, --version - show version information
-i, --info - show descriptions for the given useflags
-g, --global - show only global use flags (suboption)
-l, --local - show only local use flags (suboption)
-a, --active - show currently active useflags and their origin
-E, --enable - enable the given useflags
-D, --disable - disable the given useflags
-P, --prune - remove all references to the given flags from
make.conf to revert to default settings |
