In the process of trying to compile lyx, it wanted me to compile rcs first. Emerging rcs died in configuration with the following error message:
./conf.sh: configuring has_map_fd, has_mmap, has_madvise, mmap_signal ... make[1]: *** [conf.h] Error 139
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/rcs-5.7-r1/work/rcs-5.7/src'
make: *** [all] Error 2
!!! ERROR: The ebuild did not complete successfully.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 9, Exitcode 2
!!! (no error message)
!!! emerge aborting on /usr/portage/app-text/rcs/rcs-5.7-r1.ebuild .
Anyone else having this problem? _________________ Intellectual dishonesty is a mortal sin. |

Make error 139:
[quote]
Your compiler driver (gcc) dumped core. You probably have a corrupted, buggy or old version of GCC --- get the latest release. Alternatively you may be running out of swap space --- see Q6.8 `My machine runs very slowly when I run GCC / X / ...' for more info.
If this doesn't fix the problem you are probably having problems with memory or disk corruption. Check that the clock rate, wait states and refresh timing for your SIMMs and cache are correct (hardware manuals are sometimes wrong, too). If so you may have some dodgy SIMMs or a faulty motherboard or hard disk or controller.

Hmm. gcc 2.95.3-r5. Plenty of swap space left. Happily compiling various other things today, including kde3.01. I don't think hardware is a problem. (Of course, if hardware was a problem, it would be a great excuse for "I need a new motherboard"). I'm still at a loss. _________________ Intellectual dishonesty is a mortal sin. |
