question: how come you all use fgl-glxgears or glxgears for compare your graphics cards and configuration tweaks, but running one of those results in 100 percent cpu usage?
i mean, that does implicate that A LOT of OTHER FACTORS are included, too, making it impossible for anyone to tell you that his _card_ is running faster. machine, yes - card, no
or is it just me?
sorry for popping your bubbles.

PS er, hmm, or am i misconfigurated? please do correct me if i'm wrong. _________________ ->searched for a gentoo penguin ->alienated it with "find edges", "saturation", "photocopy" ->encoded quicktime from still ->played with aaxine ->screenshotted ->made it my avatar

I don't think anyone is trying to use glxgears as a benchmark. It's just a rough indicator if everything is configured right. If you have 50 fps in glxgears, you can assume that it's using software rendering.
If two fairly new systems both run glxgears and one has 2500 fps and the other has 1500 fps, then one of them might have a better configuration. It might also have something to do with main memory bandwith or processor speed, but at least it's worth finding out. |

i see your point dwerg, i was just surprised 'bout someone pointing out to use fgl_glxgears instead of glxgears for proper comparison.
never mind, i guess i'll have a look at a unreal demo or similar =)
thanx for your reply,
