how can i just install the core files needed, then a window mangager ontop of that? i dont want my gentoo install being more than 500 mbs.

how about an answer then? i know that when i wasnt using a PPC i never came to this board, so if i post here and people dont see it, it doesnt help me, so i posted it there, people dont go to every board in a forum. and why not go with the hey if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all. a good reply is worth alot, a bad reply is just a pathetic attempt to get your post count higher.

So just emerge xorg and your favoite window manager/desktop (XFCE/rox might be good.). Gentoo's base system is pretty minimal--you're not going to have GNOME/KDE/OpenOffice installed by default.
What exactly do you want to do with your computer?

You might need more than 500MB to compile xorg. (Sorry I don't know offhand.)

Yeah.. you'll probably need at least 700 MB to compile xorg...
