You can try removing ~/.gnome2/session and also check permissions for that whole folder, maybe you cant change it cause its readonly

If you want to make sure run (in home): chmod -R 644 ~/.gnome2/*

You hit the nail on the head-it was a permissions problem. ls showed permissions in the folder to be a convulted mess, so I performed a deserved rm on .gnome2. Fixed things fine.

My battery sucks, so I leave the thing plugged in pretty much all the time.

Mine too. Sometimes when I unplug my laptop, it turns off instantly. The laptop is really old and a battery would cost more than the thing is worth, so it just stays plugged in all the time.

Wow!! so many requests.... after a lot of groping around I came across one. So here it is  One most extraordinary fact is that you can stretch it, tile it, "xinerama" it, it remains the same. I wonder if any other wallpaper can live up to this fact :P

It relies on mpd as the backend. It's basically an alternative to gmpc. XMMS2 is just a client/frontend for mpd.

I don't think so. XMMS2 has it's own server, and other various frontends.

To get xmms2 you can go here: http://wiki.xmms2.xmms.se/ . There are also a few threads in this forum.
