russianpirate,

Sorry I took while to reply. Thats just a superkarama theme. It started out as the standard ubermon theme and I started adding more stuff to it.

And in my undying summer bordem here's my latest. I'm a fan of the Milk theme (the original not the GTK one), and I found a Clearlooks-Milk theme, which runs a lot faster than roberto's all pixmap theme. Took my desktop icons off, too much cruft :P. Showing off my new site layout in epiphany :D. Anyway..

New from me [with love]

This sounds stupid, but what is that in the tray for gmail? Mail-notification?

Nah it's some small program a mono developer started working on. He left it for other people to finish, but I'm not happy how people finished it (write user/pw unencrypted directly into gconf) so I'm adding features as I go along. Anyway here's the blog post to get his version and a few other people's versions gmail trayicon.

Tell me about it. GNOME is a failure. And that is strictly by definition... Considering it's entire goal is "usability" and the concept of a DE "just working". Well, as I've put it before:

Say you got this myracle floor. And everytime you spill something on it, it clean it up by itself and refuses to let you do it yourself. Well, what if it fails? You get stain...

I just hope that they get that in check soon, or else all gnome will be is a development platform.

The major difference between something that can't go wrong and something that can is that when the thing that can't go wrong does, its impossible to get at or fix.

My desktop. Dropped outlining from torsmo, and it looks better. Emerged xpad, and it's not great, but it works. Are there any better alternatives?

Torsmo: cpu frequency polls speedfreq. I like minimalism, and wonders if there are any better ways of doing this? I.e. fewer cycles. Are there any great ways of formating mpc-output? Examples, please :) I use the init-scripts to see whether services like net.eth1 and mpd are started. Is this a cycle-cheap way of doing it? Is there any way of checking? top?

Anyway:

The Gnome developers have *unofficially* said the session manager is broken in design (let alone that bug in that thread linked to). Gnome is probably my favorite DE, even more than KDE, WinXP or OSX. I get a lot done, and things are arranged in a simple fashion. I've never used XFCE-panel, but compared to fbpanel and pypanel gnome panel is a lot more configurable and useable. I don't see what else you need a panel to do, show open programs, notification area and a few applets. The ability to move all widgets seals the deal. What can XFCE-panel do extra? I've heard that default XFCE uses more resources than GNOME nowadays (searching for the article that stated that right now)...

UPDATE: Blah, I can't find where I saw that. OSnews reports XFCE only uses 20mb less in resources compared to XFCE, and I like gnome's look better. Wait until Gnome 2.12, then I bet they'll be even in resource useage.

Also, your Xdefaults and GTK theme if possible :-)

Great desktop!
