problems installing unofficial ebuild [SOLVED]

This forum covers all Gentoo-related software not officially supported by Gentoo. Ebuilds/software posted here might harm the health and stability of your system(s), and are not supported by Gentoo developers. Bugs/errors caused by ebuilds from overlays.gentoo.org are covered by this forum, too.

problems installing unofficial ebuild [SOLVED]

Not sure if this goes here or in portage & programing...

After seing it mentioned in OTW, I searched bugs.gentoo.org, and downloaded an ebuild for gourmet.

I then followed the steps in 5b, putting it in the suggested directory

now I see:

Code: Select all

# emerge /usr/local/portage/app-misc/gourmet-0.8.3.4.ebuild -pv
emerging by path implies --oneshot... adding --oneshot to options.

*** emercing by path is broken and may not always work!!!

These are the packages I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies
*** /usr/local/portage/app-misc/gourmet-0.8.3.4.ebuild does not exist
So, where am I going wrong and where to fix it? of should I just skip the emerge part and do it by hand?

Did you do 'ebuild gourmet-0.8.3.4.ebuild digest'?

After doing that remember to add 'app-misc/gourmet ~x86' in your package.keywords and it should show up on a normal 'emerge -p gourmet'.

are you sure you didnt create a 'gourmet' directory under app-misc and put the ebuild in there? because that is how it should be

I'm getting the error:

Code: Select all

!!! aux_get(): ebuild path for 'portage/gourmet-0.8.3.4' not specified:
none
I read the man page, but I do not see how to specify the path
After doing that remember to add 'app-misc/gourmet ~x86' in your package.keywords and it should show up on a normal 'emerge -p gourmet'.
done

I tried that under both /usr/local/portage and under /usr/portage. Both give the same error as in my last message

Now it complains that said file does not exist.

I'm sorry, my bad!

Should be:
ebuild /usr/local/portage/app-misc/gourmet/gourmet-0.8.3.4.ebuild digest

And as MrApples said, you need the directory gourmet and the ebuild file goes in that directory.

mkdir /usr/local/portage/app-misc/gourmet
mv /usr/local/portage/app-misc/gourmet-0.8.3.4.ebuild /usr/local/portage/app-misc/gourmet/

After running the ebuild digest command, you should be able to "emerge gourmet"

Should be:
ebuild /usr/local/portage/app-misc/gourmet/gourmet-0.8.3.4.ebuild digest
that brings us back to:

Code: Select all

!!! aux_get(): ebuild path for 'portage/gourmet-0.8.3.4' not specified:
none
