|
|
Bidwatcher gets broken pretty regularly by eBay webpage redesign (bidwatcher reads an ebay webpage for time sync info). Version 1.3.13 (the only buildable version in portage currently) is broken and will fail badly prior to auction completion.
Version 1.3.14 is slightly better, but will declare the auction ended five minutes before eBays official ending. It has the same parsing problem.
Version 1.3.15 Code: |
Changes to bidwatcher
--------------------
4/23/04
* TimeSync logic improved. If we can't hit eBay, rely on local time,
but, for real this time.
* Version 1.3.15
4/22/04
* Fix time synchronization
|
Version 1.3.13 should be marked bad in the ebuild masks, and version 1.3.15 should be removed from 'testing' status ASAP -- since it is the only working version.
Perhaps someday bidwatchers author will incorporate a flexible webpage parser and stop the version bumping.... _________________ Being a Gentoo user means living in a house inhabited by a family of crazed carpenters. First off, great sig. You could " or someone has pulled the rug from under you!.
Now at ver 1.3.17 . Needs -mno-mmx to compile.
I am not sure what bidwatcher is supposed to do but as for "sniping" I could not see anywhere to add a bid , bid increment or to make a bid.
Is it now just, as its name says, a "bidwatcher" ?
Anyone actually using this software?

When I was more actively EBaying, bidwatcher was the only really usable bidding software for Linux.
Is there anything better? |

Doogman,
how do you actually bid with this software?!
I get the impression that either I am missing something very obvious or that functionallity has been removed because it was not reliable - I have seen a lot of bugs about crashes, segfaults, and bids not being registered the other end .
Can you enlighten me?

OK , I found it . Right-click on an auction item brings up a menu that includes bid/snipe.
So obvious it did not merit being put in the doc? WTFM.
Actually works rather well once you work out how to drive it.

Nope, it doesn't work here.
I've missed out on winning two bids so far, this is the jist of it: Code: | Trying to snipe with idx 2 key 'blah_blah_blah' amount 311.23 quantity 1
[2005-06-01 20:31:33] Refreshing auction information.
*** glibc detected *** double free or corruption (out): 0x080f88c0 *** |
I guess it's a bug - has anyone had this sort of trouble using it? _________________ Regards,
