I was merging the latest build of portage, believe it was portage-2.0.46-r11, I suspect foul play of some kind during the build started remotely. Seemingly, the new version was installed but...
Code: | # emerge rsync
>>> starting rsync with rsync://trumpetti.atm.tut.fi/gentoo/ rsync://csociety-ftp.ecn.purdue.edu/pub/gentoo/ rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage...
Welcome to ftp.fi.debian.org, also known as trumpetti.atm.tut.fi and
trumpetti.ip6.atm.tut.fi for the IPv6 world.
All services (http,ftp,rsync) support IPv6.
In case of questions, suggestions or problems, please contact deb@atm.tut.fi
receiving file list ...
2006 files to consider
rsync: mkdir rsync://csociety-ftp.ecn.purdue.edu/pub/gentoo: No such file or directory
rsync error: error in file IO (code 11) at main.c(293)
>>> Updating Portage cache...

I don't quite know what exactly happens here, whether the update was completed or not, but at least it shows an error. Any ideas on how to get rid of this? |

It might be just an error with the rsync mirror you connected to; do you get the same error if you try emerge rsync again? Even if it connects to a different server? _________________ Man must shape his tools lest they shape him. |

According to yesterday's changelog they yanked -r11 and put in -r12. I had that problem for a while yesterday but it vanished after a few hours. |

Oddly enough, as I've tried the operation quite a number of times, resetting the SYNC="" to the default became the solution. Merging other version of portage was no use. |
