Hello all,

I'm having trouble bootstraping Gentoo 1.1a. It always fails on binutils-2.11.92.0.12.3-2.ebuild.

This kinda what the end of session looks likes.

Code:
cpp0: output pipe has been closed
gcc: internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 11
make[1]: *** [getopt.o] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory "/var/tmp/portage/binutils-2.11.92.0.12.3-r2/work/bin/utils-2.11.92.0.12.3/libiberty'
make: *** [all-libiberty] Error 2

!! ERROR: The ebuild did not complete successfully.
!! Function src-compile, Line 40, Exitcode 2
!! (no error message)

!!! emerge abortingon /usr/portage/sys-devel/binutils/binutilis-2.11.92.0.12.3-r2.ebuild .

I'm running on a home made Athlon 1.3 with 512MB of PC2100.

Can anyone help?

Jason

It seems my problems was hardware related. It seems that there was too much heat. I bumped the CPU down to 1000Mhz from 1333Mhz and everything is working fine. Guess I need to buy a bigger fan.

gcc signal 11 error .. long time no see. I had those some years ago, and the cause has always been bad RAM. I strongly recommend that you download and install memtest86 from http://www.teresaudio.com/memtest86/! The test will run several hours, but if you got a problem with RAM it will find it!

Oh, thank you very much! I've been looking for a utility like that. I've got a laptop at home that I think has some very bad RAM. I'll check that one too.
