I know this may sound blasphemous, but I am using gentoo for the fist time and finding myself missing some package management features from rpm. I decided to ask here because I'm sure that there is an answer.
I am looking for emerge equivalents of queries on packages. The closest I have found is emerge -s ^somethign$ and that tells me the version available, which one is installed (if any) and a breif description. That's great, but there are some other useful peices of information that I would like, such as:
- a list of all of the files in a particular package
- a list of all installed packages
- being able to ask to what package a particular file belongs
as in rpm -qf /usr/lib/librandomlib.so.4
That's all I can think of for now. So is this information available somewhere.
Thanks for the help. |

And while someone might be answering, can anyone tell me how to pass --options to the configure script when emerge is compiling something.
For example, I need to add --enable-gui to mplayer.
Anyone, anyone..... Beuller? |

emerge epm
it has a rpm-like sintax. Gentoolkit has also a qpkg script. _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." -- Calvin |

For this, take a look at the documentation for USE flags. For mplayer, I think it needs USE="gtk" for a gui. Be sure you emerged gtk before.

absolutely perfect. qpkg is exactly what I wanted and epm is like a stepping stone from rpm syntax. This distro absolutely rocks. Nice job everyone.
Thanks for the USE tip too. |

And if you dont like messing around with the use flags too much, emerge 'ufed' and give it a run.
Personally, I'm happy on my vacation from RPM _________________ Talk is cheap because supply always exceeds demand. |
