|
|
Are there any existing transliterations of names that crop up often IT into Han-zi (漢字)? Off the top of my head, some names:
Apple * (苹果電腦公司?)
Debian
Gentoo
Linux
Macintosh / MacOS
Microsoft
Red Hat * (紅帽 ... ?)
Slackware
Windows
And I'm sure there are other examples.
Would names with real meanings be translated directly into Chinese, like "Apple (Computer Corp.)" into something like "苹果電腦公司"? Or are some that way while others are just transliterated?
I hope I don't have to rely on Latin characters to convey these names; besides looking kind of awkward in a document otherwise composed of Han-zi (漢字), some of the people I deal with have trouble with English words and sounds. But I imagine that versions like SE, ME, XP, or X would just remain as such (unless [OS] X translates to 十). |

Better leave them alone, if you not sure
most of them don't even have a chinese name
some have, but rarely used, e.g. “Windows"<->视窗
Microsoft <-> 微软, this one is most widely used |
