no sweat -> no cleanliness, compile testing is a good thing :P

PS: About the error:
in drivers/message/fusion/mptbase.c line1438
change state to state.event 8)

my roommate has that wireless card, I had to mask that version of the driver and use 1.0.2, that gets rid of that perfect and worst rssi error

hey thanks for supporting Genetic. I dont care what ANYBODY says -- its worth using. The resulting responsiveness even under absolute 100% full system load is unbelievable and I cannot reproduce it under any other setup.

no need for comments like that, different schedulers all have the pros and cons, my laptop love genetic-as, im always doing and 'emerge -uD world' and the responsiveness of my comperter is also best with genetic-as, my computer idles at a cooler temp, several degrees on average, that is something laptop users my be more interested in that desktops or server.... so playfool, go to another forum if u want to call people names

It's scientify heresy to claim such things as genetic improving interactivity, feel free to ask Con Kolivas or J.Moilanen (author of Genetic lib) who actually tested this scientifically, or just examine the theory yourself.

Code:

nathan@nebula [nathan] $ cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.12-rc4-skunk1 (root@nebula) (gcc version 3.3.5-20050130 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.5.20050130-r1, ssp-3.3.5.20050130-1, pie-8.7.7.1)) #2 SMP Mon May 9 17:28:36 CEST 2005

yeah, if you have genetic support enabled for the anticipator scheduler, then you choose elevator=anticipatory

Hello ;)

This patchset works fine, excepts for a very small thing :

XOrg Logs :

(**) Option "CoreKeyboard"
(**) Keyboard1: Core Keyboard
(**) Option "Protocol" "standard"
(**) Keyboard1: Protocol: standard
(**) Option "AutoRepeat" "500 30"
(**) Option "XkbRules" "xorg"
(**) Keyboard1: XkbRules: "xorg"
(**) Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
(**) Keyboard1: XkbModel: "pc105"
(**) Option "XkbLayout" "fr"
(**) Keyboard1: XkbLayout: "fr"

But ...

(EE) Couldn't load XKB keymap, falling back to pre-XKB keymap

So, my 'AltGr' key doesn't work under X ... (But it works fine in a console ;) )

NiLuJe: did you try a clean version of 2.6.12-rc4 cause there seem to be some bugs in rc4 I havent sceen in rc3, for example I cant suspend my computer

priestjim: you really want it that bad... ok

Well you said you'd ditch staircase but it's here again, you liked ingo but it's not here and some people like nick even though it's outdated. plugsched is what we need :). BTW is it possible to use the gl4 version of the genetic lib instead of the old gl1? Thx anyway, I really like your patchset and I think it is the most complete I ever used :)

its not that i dont want to use plugsched or nicksched, its just that since they dont get updated its a pain in the ass to use them on an -rc kernel with all the other nice features we like and want, the genetic lib is not the old version that u think, i use version 2.6.11-gl1 which is newer than 2.6.10-gl4

With that attitude towards scientific method I'm guessing you subscribe to -fmalign-double as well. You my good man, are without a doubt, a class A ricer.

no, you dont understand.

With genetic I can:

KDE in X session 0 running Gaim, Konsole with an IRC session, Firefox, and Thunderbird along with MPD playing music in the background while burning a CD/DVD. X session 1 is running Americas Army and I can switch between VTs smoothly with no lag or sound skips AT ALL --- typing, loading of stuff, etc. I cannot reproduce this with ANY other setup -- they all lag horribly and make me want to shoot myself.

I have tried nearly every other setup and patchset but I just cant get it to work like this! And no, i'm not a ricer -- my cflags are only

CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -fomit-frame-pointer -funroll-loops -pipe"

ONE NOTE with -rc4 patchset here -- I cannot switch VTs while in game in another X session. I'm looking for a solution though... as I need this badly. This kernel runs VERY nicely :D

Funroll loops is really unneccesary and in many cases detrimental, also they are very package-specific in terms of their usefulness. Not everyone writes code the same way so that funroll loops might be useful. I just thought I'd repeat it for the nth time, I didn't want to see a flag like that with otherwise good and sane use flags :)

But you can critique mine all you want
CFLAGS="-march=k8 -O2 -pipe -ffast-math -fforce-addr -ftracer"

Nice work rmh, kernel's running nicely here.
Seems to be similar in features to the last love-sources I played with, except without the random b0rking at shutdown ;-)

conclusion : number of people just still dont understand the idea of genetic implementation, and how it can give any bennefit.
PEOPLE , JUST LOOK INTO GENETIC NICKSCHED CODE. LOOK INTO WHAT IS BASE_TIMESLICE and this PARAMETER FOR BONUS CALCULATIONS. You really thinking that it can make that difference ?
You know what this code doing ?
this is not a magic but computer science , a kind of engineering that requires a scientific way to tests and understanding.

genetic nicksched behaviour is the same as just nicksched in using :)
if You like it , use nicksched . I just did this port and extended it a little and I know this code.

some reasons ?
1) rating function latency is always longer than scheduler latency , thime to reaction and time to adapt is always longer than scheduler reaction time. and adapting isnt for a one unit of time but for some period based on the past results of rating function.
2) rating function results differences are too small to make a good difference, this is a reason why we used precalculated results later. but this even dont worked so good.

look at the genetic nicksched debug options , extending interactivity is impossible by idea . making a bennefit via tune of scheduler parameters isnt possible good because of not so good working of rating function.
Author of Genetic Zaphod J.Moilanen said that bennefit in Genetic Zaphod is around 2-3% and this scheduler has many more tunebale parameters even for RR scheduling , then I can say Genetic Nicksched has gain around 0.5% up to 1%.

or forget this post. download the latest genetic nicksched patches and have fun . placebo was used even in hospitals :)

cheers.

i see you used some of the new ext3 patches, could you get the lastest ones from the love sources?

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-333756-highlight-.html

I recently switched from reiser4 to ext3 as love sources suggested and so far it has been rocking. Except, I really like your genetic stuff better and lowmem, which it seems love is not doing anymore.
