don't use portage vars like ACCEPT_KEYWORDS or USE in command line, use /etc/portage/package.[keywords,use,mask,unmask] |

From now, I prefer using the package.keywords.
But in my opinion the problem was using -u. I've been using -u everytime just for not reemerging packets that are already installed.
But by "-u" there were also other packets updated? I noticed the hint "-u just for world and system target".
Maybe thats the cause I crashed my gentoo several times.
How do I update just one packet without reemerging it anyway?
OT: Is there a way to show the info "emerge -s" is showing to one specific packet?
--info is different.

sorry if my post was rude, or wasn't clearly explained, but my intention was to answer your question, you see, when you use ACCEPT_KEYWORDS in command line before emerge, you're setting it for the entire emerge process, so, emerge will think you want all the packages and dependencies to be from the ~ppc branch
about your last question, i didn't get it i think, what do you mean by updating without reemerging??? emerge, reemerge or update means to compile a package, what ever it's the first time you're installing it or just updating to a new version, update it doesn't just recompile a portion of the program
again, maybe i didn't got your last question at all |

What I meant with "update": If the versions are equal nothing should be done. So if I do "emerge vim", I just want to emerge it if version has changed; therefore I use -u.
But emerge -u splashutils was going to emerge also ncurses. But maybe this was because of applying ~ppc to the "world". I will use the package.keywords instead.

oooo, thanks for clarifying me that, I got you now
That's why I always use the emerge -p, to see if the program needs and update |
