Dopo aver installato Gentoo2004.3 (kernel 2.6.9 r1), ho provato ad emergere i driver nVidia contenuti nel livecd (quindi penso siano vecchi) credendo che fossero comunque stabili e compatibili con la versione del kernel di cui sopra.
Quando cerco di caricare il modulo nvidia.ko ho un errore. Tramite DMESG leggo:

Navigando nel forum mi pare di aver capito che sia un problema di incompatibilita' che si risolve seguendo il link http://www.linuxjunior.org/yabbse/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=9918;start=0#msg89879 oppure aggiornando tutto.
Ho quindi eseguito:

emerge -uDav world |
e mi e' stata restituita una sfilza di pacchetti (67) per un totale di 200Mb circa.
Purtroppo la lista e' troppo lunga e dato che vorrei scaricarli dall'ufficio come faccio ad avere la lista completa?
Ho provato con

ma non funziona.

Ho visto nel man di emerge cosa significa la S. Cosa significa Slot installation (side-by-side versions)? |

Si normalissimo, una volta installavi questi tramite un solo pacchetto, adesso li hanno separati

Sono gli slot e servono per far convivere lo stesso programma ma di versione diversa

Ok, allora vediamo se ho capito.
Dalla lista che dei pacchetti che emerge -uDav vuole installare/aggiornare vedo quali sono compresi in /var/lib/portage/world
(eseguire regenworld non farebbe male...)
I pacchetti che non voglio installare li metto in /etc/portage/package.mask
I pacchetti che voglio far credere che siano installati (magari perche' installati tramite un meccanismo diverso da portage) li metto in /etc/portage/profile/package.provided
Per quanto riguarda il kernel invece vengono scaricati solo i sorgenti, devo preoccuparmi io di modificare il link /usr/src/linux e ricompilarlo.
Ero rimasto un po' sconcertato dal fatto che emerge volesse installarmi 200Mb di roba quando sulla mia macchina non ho praticamente nulla (devo ancora installare kde o gnome o fluxbox!). Penso che sia dovuto al fatto che ho incluso --Deep
Beh, faro' un po' di prove.
Spero che vogliate aiutarmi per problemi futuri mentre io prima di postare faro' ricerche e mi leggero' i vari man.
