|
|
After about 2 and a half hours of banging my head against the wall trying to get my USB mouse's scroll wheel to work again, the solution was a piece of cake. I fortunately knew what my Xorg.conf settings for my mouse should be, so I had finally diagnosed it to be a kernel problem.
It seems that in kernel 2.6 the configuation defaults to the Intel/VIA UHCI support. This apparently works an most motherboards (even if they are not Intel/VIA based), as found out the hard way. In a last ditch attempt before throwing my mouse through the window, I decided to change from UHCI to OHCI for USB 1.x applications in the kernel. Upon recompile and reboot, to my amazement my scroll wheel began to work superbly.
The relevant kernel options are found in menuconfig under:
Device Drivers --->
USB support --->
<*> OHCI HCD support
< > UHCI HCD (most Intel and VIA) support
Which one you pick depends upon the chipset in your MB. For Intel and VIA it'll be UHCI likely. For others it could be either...for nforce2 it is OHCI.
Hopefully this will help someone else who is banging their heads against the wall. |

Moved from Desktop Environments, since this is pretty much a howto. _________________ No-one's more important than the earthworm. |
