SMP + ndiswrapper and others

So I have wireless(using ndiswrapper) and sound working for my laptop, partially due to disabling SMP. I was wondering if there is any current work being done on perhaps finding a way to be able to use SMP and ndiswrapper, or if there is already a way I am unaware of. I am working on the assumption that there currently is not since I was told to disable SMP before emerge ndiswrapper, wireless-tools, and all that.
