|
|
Hi all,
I've completed the installation process of Gentoo 1.2 on my 600Mhz iBook 14".
Since then, I tried to boot the machine into gentoo linux but with no luck...
Whenever I get to the login prompt my keyboard does not function. It seems that any key I hit is ignored... the only way to work this around is to attach an external USB standard Apple keyboard which function normally.
I've tried recompiling the kernel time after time with different options that I thought would be relevant but with no luck
Please help me |

in the gentoo install guide in the kernel section it says this:
Quote: | Also under Macintosh Device Drivers make sure to disable the default of Support for ADB raw keycodes. |
so you might check that first. |

Thanx for all your help zojas...
I tried making the kernel config as much similar to yours but still no go...
As for the other thing about ADB raw keycodes, well this was not a problem in the first place since I disabled it the first time...
Maybe I'm doing something wrong when I'm making the vmlinux file?
I simply follow the installation instructions (without repeting the settings I already made, just the kernel build...)
Any other ideas anyone?
TIA |

Hi! When you configure your kernel, you should make sure that all the stuff relevant to using the keyboard is compiled direcly into the Kernel, and not as modules. If all else fails, you might want to try the newer 1.4_rc2 ISOs available from ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo/experimental/ppc/livecd/. |

Also, those machines do require ADB support, so make sure you only turned off the raw adb keycodes options and not any other adb options.
Best rule of thumb, is to rm your .config, then go in and turn off _only_ what is mentioned specifically in the install guide. THe only thing that is on by default that shouldnt be is the raw adb keycodes.
We may be moving to a better method for future kernel builds, possibly allowing you to pick a default config to start from based on your machine type. |

That would be great for ppc since generally the hardware configs are rather static, especially on the laptops. |
