2.6.12-rc2-vivid1 is for 2.6.12-rc2-mm3

I dont looking to extend audience this time :p :)
but maybe just someone will be interested in this.

Im cfq-ts,kexec and more stuff user and I like to have Staircase with all additions.

The simple way is to just use mm as base and add ck for it . Im also vesa-tng/fbsplash user so this patches are here.

info wrote:

This small patchset is prepared for 2.6.12-rc2-mm3.

Many of features are just in mm3 like reiser4,Kexec,FUSE,CFQ-Timeslice etc.
Patches here are from CK,Spock(fbsplash, vesatng) and Krejler (USB MousePolling)

This patchset is just like CK form mm , with small additions.

CPU Scheduler : Staircase 10.7_tes1

about test1 patch for 10.7 [ a quote from CK mailing list ] :
This patch addresses basically the
_last known_ behavioural problem in staircase which noone has actually hit in
the wild but I still knew about. I've been looking at it for some time to try
and find a cheap way to work around the misbehaviour _without_ affecting the
way staircase behaves in any way.

and the list :
Code:

small_vivid_menu.diff - selection of default io scheduler etc.
2612rc2mm3-staircase107.diff - reverse mm's sched* changes and apply staircase10.7
s10.7_test1.diff - last update for the staircase
timeslice_sysctl.diff - for setting base_timeslce for staircase and show its unusability
schedbatch2.7.diff |
schediso2.12.diff  |-> additional "policies" for staircase
schedrange.diff    |
1g_lowmem1_i386.diff - for big mem users hack hehe :)
cddvd-cmdfilter-drop.patch - a non-root cd hack from ck
isobatch_ionice2.diff |
rt_ionice.diff        |-> extension to iopro.h
mapped_watermark3.diff - vmscan enchancement
fbsplash-0.9.2-r1-2.6.12-rc1-bk5.patch - framebuffer splash support
vesafb-tng-0.9-rc6-r2-2.6.12-rc1.patch - vesa resolutions and refresh rates easy settings
usbhid-readd-kconfig-r1.patch - Krejler's usb mouse polling setting.

in the past we have other trees :
- mmvivid was a vivid full mm based
- vivid was vanilla based.
- vv_e was extended vivid in the times of vivid_stable maintained by Troll
- mmvv_e was extended mm based vivid in the times of vivid_stable maintained by Troll.

mmvivid,vv_e,mmvv_e are deprecated :)

last time : vivid is mm based + ck + small additions
vividserv is our tree for the servers maintained by Predatorfreak :)

cheers.

Thank you!

BTW if you could please have a look at my post on the rc-vivid1 topic and maybe could enlighten my about what my problem could be, it would be very nice. Anyway I'm gonna try to upgrade this evening and see if it can change anything...

Fallow, your ebuild has a type - says 2.6.11 instead of 2.6.12 for the patch file name

Wait, nm, the ebuild says nothing about 11, but its trying to download the 11 patch for some reason... I'm confused.

Code:
mjolnir root # ebuild /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/vivid-sources/vivid-sources-2.6.12_rc2-r1.ebuild digest
>>> Downloading http://vivid.dat.pl/fallow/pub/vivid-sources/2.6.12-rc2-vivid1/2.6.11-rc2-vivid1.bz2
--10:04:14--  http://vivid.dat.pl/fallow/pub/vivid-sources/2.6.12-rc2-vivid1/2.6.11-rc2-vivid1.bz2
           => `/usr/portage/distfiles/2.6.11-rc2-vivid1.bz2'
Resolving vivid.dat.pl... 212.106.6.40
Connecting to vivid.dat.pl[212.106.6.40]:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 404 Not Found
10:04:14 ERROR 404: Not Found.

No digest file available and download failed.

!!! Couldn't download 2.6.11-rc2-vivid1.bz2. Aborting.

:?

Got it, you used ${KV} so it uses the version of the kernel I'm currently running, but I'm on 2.6.11 as of right now, so it threw it off. Let's see if I can fix this myself, shouldn't be too hard ;) Yup, got it, emerging now.

As pointed out above, the kernel has nothing to do with what's booted, just what it supports. Your bootloader has to support RR4 in order for the partition to be bootable. Also, as you would see from reading the post, this version does not appear to include a RR4 patch in line with Fallow's recent disillusionment with RR4 which I may or may not have had anything to do with.

for some reason when i did an 'emerge alsa-driver', the module wouldn't load got errors like crazy. couldn't get nvidia to work either, says that there is no screen found. used exact .config with nitro and dark and they both worked.

yay fallow :)

would be nice to test vivid again, to see how new staircase is playing with ricer4 :P
but same here: nvidia (both 6629 and 7x thing) compile fine, load fine, but fail to initialize at X startup.
mm is still mm it seems :/

must patch latest ck with reiser4, or just get rid of that (thinking about that for some days already somehow, after long testing phase more contras than pros for it)

greets! :)

Perhaps you can contribute. We need some xfs opinion in there too, so perhaps you could give that a try? Your use of RR4 suggests an experimenting mind.

hihihihi!

ok, now i have 2.6.12-rc2-ck1 + ricer4 +kexec & fun (called it ckpp ..lol)
fallow, your gen4nicksched work in BIG respekt, but staircase, yumm it rocks i have to admit.
still high cpu with reiser4 when copying a load of stuff, but all in all it's nice when i copy/mv/delete stuff around on reiserfs and ext3. so it's like: bye bye reiser4

DrWarland: reading, but xfs is no candidate for me somehow. ext3 or ..jfs.. is good now? lets see :)

/me join's here :)

greets!

I don't like reiser4. For some reason, when I tried to compile this kernel (and i've tried several times with different options selected and deselected, I always get a kernel oops, which causes nvidia and alsa to not load. Any ideas?

(the oops error is different every time)

Same here.

@fallow
Would it be possible to include Win4Lin support?

Other than that great work.

I have emu10k1 , alsa working superb for me.
Code:

[ebuild  NS   ] media-sound/alsa-driver-1.0.9_rc2  -debug -doc +oss 0 kB

about win4lin : Please add it yourself . Im not using it ,this "patchset" isnt for extending audience or making yet another patchset propaganda. I dont using it , so I will be not available even to test it :P :) .
It is bad thing to always adding a feature wchich will be _untested_ in new patchset version.

Please use vivid if You're like it , if not - just no :)

greetings &
cheers :)

I have a problem about ati-drivers.
I compiles ok but failed to modprobe.
Code:

gentoo ~ # modprobe fglrx
FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.12-rc2-vivid1/video/fglrx.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

dmesg says
Code:

fglrx: Unknown symbol inter_module_get

tried love 2.6.12-rc2 too
modprobe could be done, but give me a black sreen when startx.

I use a ati 9800pro on nf2 board.
Anyone could help me?

Thanks!
