|
|
hi all,
i have been trying to get Acpi or APM to perform power down when i give the shutdown command to my machine. I searched the forum and found threads dealing with this and one of them suggested that i use "acpid".
however when i try to use acpid, it reports that:
Code: | "ACPI support is not compiled into the kernel" |
i have enabled every single option in the kernel for both acpi and apm but somehow is still get the same message. i am using gentoo 1.4_rc2. i remember that i was able to get power down working when i was using gentoo 1.2. i also know that my bios supports both apm & acpi. i am using Duron 1000 Mhz.
any help is highly appreciated.
thanx a lot _________________ Parminder

If I reemeber coorrectly though you can compile both at once in the kernel ssuccessfully. The kernel will only use one at a time. The one that gets uused, iss the first initialized at startup. Try recomppiling with out the apm. (sorry I haven't fixed the keybooard settings yett.) _________________ !!!teG I sdrawkcaB eroM ehT oG I sdrawroF eroM ehT |

Moved from Installing Gentoo.
What options are in your BIOS (ACPI or APM)? _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

thanx a lot |
If you compile both in then the kernel will automatically disable acpi because apm is activated first. To get around this, use the apm=off kernel boot option. |

thanx a lot everyone. i managed to solve the problem by removing apm support from the kernel. then acpi took over & i was able to do a power down without using acpid. _________________ Parminder
