new version 0.9.2 is here !
You have to upgrade Your splashutils to the 1.1.9.x version from portage
and regenerate Your initrd . Good Spock's How-To is here

to merge new splashutils please put this line

Code:
 media-gfx/splashutils

into Your /etc/portage/package.unmask file

available at :
http://vivid.dat.pl/fallow/pub/index.php?path=vivid-sources%2F2.6.12-rc1-vivid1/

will be uploaded to sourceforge.net soon :)

Well, fallow, I still don't quite understand, why you concentrate on two different patch-sets. What's the intention for it?

As latest love is a no go on the ATI drivers (if someone needs 3D accel), I tried out now this latest vivid. This is the error output during compilation:

The result:

- ATI drivers not working, identical problem like with latest love (DRI module causing xorg-x11 to crash the system on startx), so this is a no go for ATI users as well (except 3D is not needed, then the DRI module can still be disabled in xorg.conf, then everything else is working). You probable should mentiuon this fact in your release note (as well as in the release note for 2.6.12-rc1-love1).

- ipw2200 (embedded kernel module, not the separate driver package) not working. Modules get loaded, no error message, but unable to connect to my access-point using WEP encryption, which may be due to the above mentioned warning messages? I already updated to the latest version of wireless-tools (because it was mentioned during boot, that the driver was compiled using v18, but the installed app was only supporting v17), but that didn't change anything.

Too bad, so either I go back to 2.6.12-rc1-love1 without ATI DRI or just to the fully working 2.6.11-love2. :(

1) LOVE isnt my own patchset . VIVID was my own project and I have full free hand in everything in it. As I said we decided to not base love on full mm .

2) ATI - I not goint to do anything more with ati-drivers, I havent ATI card , this is the same situation as in 2.6.12-rc1 . You must find crappy ATI drivers fix , not fix in the kernel. Kernel developers determining a way , and NVIDIA or ATI developers have to accommodate to it.

3) Sorry if IPW not working , my fault so :)

I swithced from full reiser4 to full reiser3 now , without reiser4 Staircase is doing pretty well.

cheers.

Ah, now I understand, also I thought, you are fully into the genetic-nicksched stuff, but now you are on staircase again?

Yes, a never ending story with ATI, very sad. I already submitted a support-ticket on the new ATI support site (which replaced the former ati-feedback-form). I just hoped, there would be an easy fix for that problem. I'll stick with 2.6.11-love2, which works quite well, until this issue is solved.

Hm, isn't that a little too much effort, just to have a cpu scheduler doing well?
Did you have any bad experiences with Reiser4?

I think Reiser4 (1.0.4) is the superior fs (I did not experience a single problem until now, also with a lot of hard-reboots). After using Reiser4 for a while, I tried reverting back to reiserfs, but I really noticed the loss in speed, so I came back to Reiser4 and sticked with it.

I also think, love is superior to vivid, and I really thought you are using love for yourself (that's why the question about your intention for vivid came up in the first place).

yeah , You have SMP enabled . I dont using it.
in 2.6.12-rc1 CACHE_DECAY_TICKS is removed from SMP support. ( See 2.6.12-rc1 changes )
please try to remove just line 4785 from Sched.c
this line so
Code:
             cache_delay = cache_decay_ticks * 5;

[EDIT]
corrected in the patch file
[/EDIT]

cheers.

Yeah I like genetic nicksched , now with full reiser3 I'm testing Staircase and It is doing pretty well.

About ATI : it is better to change ati card to nvidia card imho :):)

I have removed "cache_delay = cache_decay_ticks * 5; " from kernel/sched.c and the make work...
But I've the same problem with -mm sis900
Code:

  LD      init/built-in.o
  LD      .tmp_vmlinux1
drivers/built-in.o(.text+0x9269b): In function `sis900_get_settings':
: undefined reference to `mii_ethtool_gset'
drivers/built-in.o(.text+0x926eb): In function `sis900_set_settings':
: undefined reference to `mii_ethtool_sset'
drivers/built-in.o(.text+0x9265f): In function `sis900_get_link':
: undefined reference to `mii_link_ok'
drivers/built-in.o(.text+0x9271f): In function `sis900_nway_reset':
: undefined reference to `mii_nway_restart'
make: *** [.tmp_vmlinux1] Error 1

Nice. I was just about to post on that 2.6.12-rc1-mm4-ckuo thread that I couldn't manage to get fbsplash to compile - and then I noticed this thread, which has everything I'm looking for. Thanks again :)

Seems stable and everything is working fine (used it for more than a day already) - very suprising as it's based on mm which has never worked very well for me. :)

Yeah , You remember also our problems with full mm vivid in the old vivid thread :)
with full mm based always is a high error risk simply because this is a non-stable playground for a 2.6 line.
for me this working also without side-effect and badness, maybe just 2.6.12-rc1-mm4 is not so " risky " hehe :)

cheers.

Hi, I've got the same probleme with mm (but I've got many others with mm :) ) & vivid, I cannot manage to launch X, I tried the last three versions of nvidia module and good glx each time, then went back to nv + dri... nothing matters X wont launch...

I've got a barton/nforce 2 box and my kernels says :

Quote:

root@unicorn_1 src # grep -i agp /usr/src/linux-2.6.12-rc1-vivid1/.config | grep y
CONFIG_AGP=y
CONFIG_AGP_NVIDIA=y

so when I startx X, nvidia module failed to be initialised... even if I put nv in my xorg.conf 8O, so I started banging my head against walls but, it didn't change anything...

ps I also tried nvAGP 1 or 3 in xorg.conf (and I never forget to do symlinks to my new kernel  )

No problem with gentoo or ck-based, any idea of what it could be???

cheers
