I've gotten every thing set up and installed, ready for an emerge kde, unfortunately after I reboot the network card does not work. I have added the module tulip to the modules.autoload file as well as compiling every single network card I could think of that's 10/100 (I've had this exact same problem before.) Any suggestions...without having to buy a new NIC, I will, but I'd rather save my money.
Thanks,

IIRC, some of the LNE100TXs are Realtek RTL-8139s. It sounds like you may have tried that one already, though. Is an error thrown up when you try to load the module?
Try running `ifconfig eth0`, and if it says something like 'No such device' then the module isn't loaded. If it displays something else then it's probably a network configuration issue. |

Sounds like you are past this point, but I had all kinds of problems with my LNE100TX under 1.4_rc2. Even when the card would be detected, it would give me a lot of timeout errors, and even though it was supposedly sending icmp packets, they weren't being sniffed on a test hub i threw up.
I went to 1.4_rc1 on the unreal cd, worked like a charm. After that, compiled tulip into the kernel, and haven't had a problem yet. |

I got it working...all I had to do was type dhcpcd after bootup and it worked fine, now I guess all I need to do is set it up so that command is run at bootup. |

Sounds like you need to properly configure /etc/conf.d/net

Perhaps you need to:
rc-update add net.eth0 default
It is an easily overlooked step in the install guide.
BTW, there are 5 versions of the LNE100TX. The latest 5.x are tulip compatible. Earlier models may be RTL-8139 compatible as suggested. |
