| What do you guys do to prevent getting spammed with email constantly? Stuff like ordb.org? I get a LOT, and was wondering if anybody had any suggestions... |

| I've been using spamassassin for about 6 months and it is accurate. I get no less then 160 emails in a 24hr period in my spam folder all sorted nicely by score. This way I can check to see if someone gets tagged as spam accidently and if you send me something that gets a high score shame on you! |

As some other folks have mentioned, SpamAssassin is a good product.
Personally, I use SpamBouncer though I'm considering dumping it in favor of Vipul's Razor. I haven't used Razor, but several of my friends do and they swear by it. I believe it takes a bit more effort to get set up and working properly, but seems to work very well once it's up and running.

SpamAssassin will use Vipul's Razor (as an extra test), if you have it installed.

I have a box with about 20 users and while spam hasn't been much of a problem over the years it is starting to become one. Is there any way to install site-wide spam filtering? The current setup is Engarde Linux running postfix, so this is not exactly a gentoo-related question.

You can set up your SMTP program to use one of the many RBLs out there. Another alternative (or addition) can be the aforementioned SpamAssassin, which is designed to work in the ISP setting.

I have the best spam filters on earth: good admins
My school account, there's a rabid anti-spam guy running the email server. He's a bit scary (threatens to kill spammers, and I think he means it), but I get NO spam, even though I post to mailing lists.
I also pay for a www.cotse.com account (I'm just a happy customer, not an employee or anything) which is great. It's a good value for $6/mo. It allows chaining of all the major spam filters, out to as many as you're willing to wait for
Oh, and the cotse email gives you a subdomain. So, I'm houdini [at] cotse.{com, net}, but <anything>@houdini.cotse.net (not .com) will get to me. So, sitexyz.com gets sitexyz@houdini.cotse.net, and if I get spam there, I drop that email address, and send the company a nasty letter/call/visit.
Did I mention I really don't like spam? I want the job of the aforementioned rabid anti-spammer, so I won't sound like a lunatic when I talk about it ("no, really, it's my job!"). _________________ ^]:wq |
