Whenever I'm playing a game, or running glxgears, it stutters for a split second and is *really* annoying. In a span of about 5 seconds, it'll stutter for maybe .1 seconds...just enough to piss me off. I'm using 7174 and am using Ti4200. I also get around 200fps in glxgears. Any ideas on how to improve performance?
I turned off the preemptible kernel option and it fixed it...apparently that option isn't great for gaming. |

Can you give any more info on this kernel option? I have been having issues with pretty much every 3d game, videos of all kinds and, sometimes, even just running various tasks (such as a web browser, etc...). The issue is striking similar to yours in that I will get a very small stutter at seemingly regular points and I can't seem to figure out why (I also have an ATI card - Sapphire x800 PRO) I am re-compiling my kernel right now with this option turned off, but I'm just curious what it does exactly and what led you to try turning it off yourself. |
