Hello

About a week ago I reinstalled my gentoo system since my root filesystem decided to die.
I read about portage's collision-protect feature and it sounded very sensitive to me so I gave it a try. I had no problems installing any packages so far - using stable packages mainly and having a basic system with kde and a few things. But I wouldn't post if things would emerge smooth would I? So, today I got my first collision and I wonder what to do. Kdetv and avifile are the ones causin trouble:
Code:
* checking 135 files for package collisions
existing file /usr/bin/kv4lsetup is not owned by this package

I don't want to disable collision-protect, because I thing it helps keeping my system stable. But:
- Why is this feature not meantioned in the installation docu - will it cause more trouble if more packages are installed?
- Is there a chance this gets fixed when I report it? I can't belief beeing the first one experiencing this, though. Kdetv and k3b (needs avifile) seems a common combination to me. But I didn't find anything on the forums about this, on the other hand...
- I like gentoo and if I can help by reporting collisions I will do so.

Are there people out there who can help me out with this?

It's a rather new feature and still has some issues with a few packages (I don't think it will ever be enabled by default). If you want you can file an enhancement bug to add it to the docs.

It should be fixed, please report it at https://bugs.gentoo.org.
