|
|
I think that a thread should be made sticky that basically says "It is normal for emerge KDE/Gnome/Xorg to take 8+hours"
It seems kind of useless, but i have seen at least 10 posts since i've been on this forum asking "I have a <insert specs here> computer and i did emerge kde and it has taken 5 hours already.. is this normal??" one would think that people would search and find that this question has already been asked and answered in various forms probably 50 times.
Just a simple suggestion that would (i think) free up more time to answer questions that haven't already been answered. |

Openoffice fits into this group of long compile times. _________________ Registered Linux user# 375038. |

If somebody writes a FAQ, I'd be glad to add it to the forum. _________________ lolgov. 'cause where we're going, you don't have civil liberties.

The "I don't want to install gentoo because it takes too long and my time is so valuable that I don't even sleep at night or leave my computer to take a poo ever!" thread.
Seriously all of these crybabies on Slashdot that say gentoo takes too long to install obviously never leave the house. Otherwise they'd realize they could start a bootstrap at night, and in the morning start the emerge system && emerge -u --deep world && emerge (window manager) && emerge mozilla-firefox and be ready to go when they get back.
Emerging stuff takes zero of my time. I start it in the background and continue working completely oblivious to it. _________________ Inspiron 4100 & Sun UltraAXe
