I'm trying to get sound working on my laptop. I'm following the Gentoo Linux ALSA Guide and all goes well until I try and unmute the card:
| Code: | # /etc/init.d/alsasound start
* Initialising ALSA.... [ ok ]
* Starting sound driver: snd-ali5451
* No mixer config in /etc/asound.state, you have to unmute your card!
# amixer set Master 100 unmute
ALSA lib simple.c:944:(simple_add1) helem (MIXER, 'IEC958 Playback Switch',0,0,0) appears twice or more
amixer: Mixer load error: default

When I look in /etc/asound.state, 'IEC958 Playback Switch' is in there twice, once as control 22, once as control 24; the question is why? And how do I fix it?

I've got the same problem.
BTW, I'm using the snd-ali5451 driver.
Anybody got an idea?

use alsa-driver-0.9.0-rc7.
Worked for me.
