first time installing gentoo, i am also a newbie, heres where i got to and error appear:(, please someone help me. I'll search for posts after I post my post.

-march=i386

This is for x86 hardware. I don't know if this is coming from a bad ebuild or your make.conf.

The same version of Portage compiled ok on my Ultra 5.
Can you post your make.conf so we can have a look?

here is my make.conf, how do i copy text from installation, and post it here?

CFLAGS="-mcpu=ultrasparc -O2 -pipe"
CHOST="sparc-unknown-linux-gnu"
CXXFLAGS="-mcpu=ultrasparc -O2 -pipe"

i reinstall it with different partition i have root to be ext2 and others ext3. will this work ok?

The CFLAGS etc look fine.

Did you uncomment any of the advanced features in make.conf like sandbox?

Ext2 and Ext3 should be fine for filesystems but I cant think of a good reason to have root Ext3 and the rest Ext2
Ext3 would be fine for all.

i just have those lines in make.conf file. can i change ext2 to ext3 with out any data lost?
