|
|
Hi all.
I've just changed the hard disks in my Ultra1, and wanted to do a fresh install of Gentoo 2004.1 (following the updated install docs), however I keep getting this error when untarring the stage one tarball:
Quote: | tar: ./proc/.keep: Cnnot open: No such file or directory
./root
./root/.keep
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors |
I've mounted proc using: Code: | mount -t proc none /mnt/gentoo/proc |
Anybody have any ideas? I didn't get this with the 2004.0 disc. I'm getting the stage tarball from the net, although it's the same one that's on the CD.
Thanks,
Vu. _________________ Gentoo Noob |

I had the same problem, and I skipped the mkdir /mnt/gentoo/proc and them mount part, and it seemed to unpack fine. The bootstrap worked fine too.

I had the same problem. You dont have write access to /proc whilst a proc filesystem is mounted there, so I just unmounted it and the error went away. If, as you say, its the last file in the archive though, it doesnt matter. |

Thanks guys.
So I won't mount /proc, but does that have any negative effects on the install? (why would it want to write to /proc anyway?

Ok I've just untarred the stage1 file and had a look at ./proc/.keep, and it's empty. Why does it exist at all?
If any Sparc developers are reading - would that file be removed from future stage1 tarball releases? It's just that the documentation says you need to mount proc, but if you do, you get an error 'cos you don't have write permissions to it.
Cheers,

I got that same problem working from the stage 2 tarball. It worried me at first but I continued on because as others have said, it was the last file in the archive and was completely unnecessary. Although, I would be curious to learn what the .keep file is for anyways. |
