Help please!
I have just installed on a E3500 with a D1000 hanging off the back. All was working fine, until I did a emerge --update world on Tuesday. The system started to act a little unstable, so I rebooted to try to clear. On boot, I get the following:
Code: | <snip>

VFS: Mounted root (ext3 filesystem) readonly.

Now, the problem I have with this is that I do not have a seperate /boot partition, it is on the / partition. So to get as far as loading the kernel, the root partition must be mountable! My silo.conf is this:
Code: |
livecd etc # more silo.conf
partition = 1
root = /dev/sda1
timeout = 10
image = /boot/kernel-2.4.24
label = linux

This has been working fine for about 3 days, until I did the emerge --update world. The packages I have installed are as follows:

Everything has been installed via emerge. This was a stage1 install.
Also, just to make it more strange, I can mount the partitions and use them fine from the live CD. I can even chroot onto the partitions and run that way, with no problems.
Has anyone seen this sort of thing before? I have tried the forum search ( dosn't seem to be working for me at the moment! I do a search for Gentoo and get no results!) and on google.
Can someone pleae point me in the right direction? This is really buging me, as this is my first Gentoo install I am a unix sys admin by trade ( mainly Solaris) and run RedHat and Mandrake at work and home. I am determined to get this working right, then migrate my home laptop to gentoo!
If more information is needed, please just let me know.
Thanks in advance
