I installed the latest Sun Java package today. This evening, when doing an emerge --pretend --deep world it wants to load java-sdk-docs-1.4.2 and blackdown-jdk-1.4.2.03.
Am I going to cause myself problems having both Sun and Blackdown java loaded?
Regards,
Kevin

Hi,
have a look at the gentoo java guide.
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/java.xml
And if this answers your question please add solved to the header of your original post _________________ greetings

It seems I misunderstood the original problem (again) and was talking about two different things.
I had Sun JRE loaded and something triggered Blackdown JDK. When I followed the instructions and tried to set Sun JRE as the default I was told I was missing binaries.
So, I emerged the Sun JDK and set it as default.
On my system now are Sun JRE 1.5, Sun JDK 1.4 and Blackdown JDK 1.4. I probably won't remove anything eventhough they seem redundant. I don't want to break anything else.
Thanks for the pointer to the doc. I have to admit, Gentoo's documentation has more depth than most other distributions I've come across. I just didn't expect to find something so obscure given it's own documentation.
Regards,
Kevin |
