i am having a problem similar to the person in
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=21654&highlight=alsa+es1968
thing is, none of those fixes work for me. my soundcard is "Multimedia audio controller: ESS Technology ES1978 Maestro 2E (rev 16)" which supposedly uses the snd-es1968 deal.
when i do lsmod, i get nothing. emerge alsa-tools and do amixer, and i get the errors that you arent supposed to get. i cant even modprobe snd-es1968. can someone help me out. i've tried all i can think of. i've been following the alsa config guide from gentoo. |

did u compile the kernel with soundsupport but without selecting a specific card? try to search if the module is present on your harddisk (locate ...) you can also take a look at:
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/
i dont find the module you refer to there - select the correct module to see detailed installation instructions... _________________ To an engineer the glass is neither half full, nor half empty - it is just twice as big as it needs to be. |

dang. i was hoping i was wrong. so i have another question...
looking at the alsa guide from gentoo, you rebuild the kernel and all that jazz, dont you need to actually use that kernel? or not? i went with the no-reboot method so i assume i am still using the kernel that has sound support enables and a particular sound card selected as a module as well. not until i did the recompile did i fix that.
but the directions dont say anything about moving that new kernel to the /boot
am i supposed to or am i just hoping? |

If all you do is add a module, then I don't guess you have to add the bzImage to /boot, since the things incoorporated in the kernel is still the same...
Anyway, does your uname -r and your current kernel version corespond? - What is your /usr/src/linux symlink pointing to? _________________ Lust desires eternity; wants deep, deep eternity!
